# Quickstart (/docs)

<TerminalCommand command="npx nylorun up" />

<CopyPrompt />

## How it works [#how-it-works]

<ArchitectureFlow />

Start the Runtime, then connect with Studio, the Agents SDK, HTTP, the CLI, or
the Admin SDK. Check it with `npx nylorun status`. Stop it with
`npx nylorun down` — volumes stay.

## Your first agent [#your-first-agent]

```sh
npx nylorun init agents/hello --example
npx nylorun apply agents/hello --agent
npx nylorun chat hello
```

`init` writes an [agent manifest](/docs/build/agent-manifests): `AGENT.md` with
the agent's name, description, and instructions, and, with `--example`, an
HTTP tool, an MCP server, and a trigger, each explained in its `README.md`.
`apply --agent` saves it as an agent manifest and makes the Agent `hello` from
it. `chat` sends each line you type to the Agent and prints the reply.

The example's tool and server call `orders.example.com`, which does not
answer. Delete `tools/` and `mcp.json` before you apply, or point them at your
own service and write their two secrets, `ORDERS_TOKEN` and
`ORDERS_MCP_TOKEN`, with `npx nylorun agents secrets put hello <name>`.

## Prerequisites [#prerequisites]

Node 24, Docker Compose v2, and a model key if you call a provider. On Windows
use WSL2 and keep the project on the Linux filesystem.
